From January 23rd to 24th, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment held the 2024 National Conference on Eco-environmental Protection in Beijing, summed up the eco-environmental protection work in 2023, analyzed the current situation, and arranged the deployment of key tasks in 2024.
The meeting decided to focus on the following eight key tasks in 2024:
First, actively promote the construction of the pioneer area of beautiful China. We will promote the establishment of the implementation system and mechanism for the construction of beautiful China, study and formulate the effectiveness evaluation index system and methods, and promote the local practice of the construction of beautiful China at different levels.
The second is to persistently fight the battle against pollution. Defend the blue sky, clear water and pure land with higher standards, and strengthen the treatment of solid waste and new pollutants.
The third is to actively promote green, low-carbon and high-quality development. Full service to support the sustained improvement of economic operation, and further promote the coordinated innovation of pollution reduction and carbon reduction in cities and industrial parks. Promote the implementation of major projects in the field of ecological environment. Actively respond to climate change, improve the national carbon trading market and strengthen the daily supervision of data quality in the carbon market.
The fourth is to strengthen the supervision of ecological protection and restoration. Strengthen the investigation and rectification of ecological damage, promote the implementation of major projects for biodiversity protection, and strengthen the prevention of ecological security risks.
The fifth is to ensure nuclear and radiation safety. Promote the establishment of a modern nuclear safety supervision system, strengthen the operation supervision and environmental supervision of nuclear power plants, research reactors and nuclear fuel cycle facilities, and strengthen the decommissioning and management of key nuclear facilities.
Sixth, strengthen the supervision and enforcement of ecological environment and risk prevention. We will further promote the central eco-environmental protection inspector, continuously improve the effectiveness of eco-environmental supervision and law enforcement, and strengthen the prevention and control of environmental risks and emergency response to environmental incidents.
Seventh, vigorously promote scientific and technological innovation in the field of ecological environment. Strengthen the construction of ecological environment science and technology platform, build strategic scientific and technological strength in the field of ecological environment, promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements in ecological environment, and expand the application of digital technology.
Eighth, speed up the improvement of the modern environmental governance system. Deepen the reform in the field of ecological environment, improve the laws, regulations, policies and standards of ecological environment, accelerate the establishment of a modern ecological environment monitoring system, promote the national action of ecological environment protection, and deepen international dialogue and cooperation in the field of ecological environment and climate.
